Garry's Mod – Murder is a free game that takes place in the Garry's Mod world of Steam. As long as you have both a Steam account and CS: Source, you can download a copy and begin playing.

Designed for the true crime buffs who want to try their hand at solving crimes, it lets you trace a killer's steps and both find out who the killer was and how that person killed the victim. As this is an open world game, you have the chance to explore many different levels and stages. You'll first locate the victim and look for evidence around the scene. That evidence can include prints left behind by the killer or the murder weapon. The game also lets you explore the open world to find out more about the victim. When you click on any item in the game, words will appear across the screen to tell you what that item is and what connection it has to the murder.

One reason many Steam players like Garry's Mod – Murder is that it lets them play as part of a team. You can add other players based on their Steam names and work with them to solve the murder. If you find the killer, the game will tell you that you won and issue a list of loot that you found. It also shows you how much loot each member found and ranks players based on these figures.

This mod does a good job of creating a virtual open world that you can explore at your leisure. You'll have no problem moving between levels and finding everything you need to prove who committed the crime. Most of the levels take place in what looks like a mansion. Much of the evidence you need is right out in the open too.

If you would prefer to be a criminal rather than solve a crime, the game lets you become the killer. You can then work your way through the game to stay one step away from the players hunting you. This game even lets you work with a group of crime buffs to throw them off your trail as you remove and hide evidence around each level. The only issue that some players have is that this game is a little repetitive. Once you solve the murder or play as the killer a few times, you may not want to play anymore.
